Heartless Fendi here with another raw, straight-to-the-point review—Horror Brothers by SUBUTAI and Wise 1 dropped back in April 2024, and it’s a short, punchy 8-track project clocking in around 20-21 minutes that is still worth keeping in rotation. Super underground hip-hop/rap with that horror-tinged Trap Metal edge. An incredibly versatile release. Starting with HEART-ATTACK kicking things off with a build up of progressive punk energy—a simple beat that ramps up and hits hard through out—but then things flipped. And we fell straight into HANDSOME DEVIL, a track with a laid-back, spooky phonk feel? That’s a bold switch-up. From the tracklist, it keeps that variety going: stuff like REGRETS AND PAST MISTAKES, TOE-TAGS, MUSASHI, SHADOW TEMPLE, NOAH’S ARK—each one seems to carve its own lane, which is refreshing as hell in a scene full of copy cat trap loops and repetitive flows. No cookie-cutter vibes here; the duo’s clearly got range and aren’t afraid to experiment. My only complaints and constructive criticisms..
- That DIY cover art—it’s giving low-budget Bandcamp energy, which can feel mismatched when the music itself sounds polished and intentional. Kinda undercuts the first impression for such a solid release.
- Volume/mastering inconsistencies are a real buzzkill for some listeners, especially on a project this short where flow matters. But thats a note for the engineer.
None the less their talent shines through. SUBUTAI’s and Wise 1 carry it well, and an 8/10 feels fair: solid execution with room to tighten the presentation. Deducting for art and mixing makes sense without killing the overall win. Horror Brothers, out now on all platforms!
