Here is a new cut from a couple of up-and-coming rappers (or whatever genre they’re leaning into—it’s got that same trap edge with some metal hooks) that is typical of whats been been popping up in my feed past few years. The track dives straight into the mess. It’s pissed-off storytelling with few words—no sugarcoating the fakeness or the letdowns when someone picks a Rolex over actual trust. Those repeated lines in the chorus hammer in, like the artist’s just fed up and needs to yell it a few times to get the poison out. Thing is, the whole setup feels like a killer idea that didn’t quite get baked all the way. It’s gritty, sure, almost too stripped-down—beats hit hard but lyrics start feeling predictable, and the delivery comes off rough around the edges, like a demo that skipped a few polish sessions. You can hear the anger, but it doesn’t always land with the punch it could. Still, I’m not writing these guys off. They’ve got fire in the tank and a perspective that’s worth hearing more of. With some tighter production and a bit more finesse, they could turn this kind of honesty into something that really sticks. For now, it’s a solid listen if you’re in the mood for something unfiltered and underground, but it leaves you wanting a fuller picture. I give SUCKA FREE a solid rating of 6/10 out now on all plats.
