Goth Normie ended last year with a loud and crazy bang. But the release titled PAY ATTENTION is still fresh, join me as I re-visit this masterfully crafted 5 track EP. This extended play release introduces its self with an ominous track titled My Heart Needs Braces, opened with dark tones and raw guitar feedback. This establishes an organic real grungy atmosphere right away. The song starts out slow and spooky but Goth Normie quickly changes the pace ruthlessly ripping the words from his throat as he spills out his woes.
The biggest take away from this release is the experimental yet professional beat production and mix. The bass on this particular track is a good example because its mixed in such a way that it starts to sound industrial and out of this world. Making chopped up sounds that confuse the senses but also make complete sense somehow. Almost sounds like a predatory Xenomorph purring to a beat.
What A Day is another stand out track on this Goth Normie EP. I love the way he goes crazy on this track taking brief pauses for our mind to catch a breath before stirring the circle pit of emotions again. The beat maintaining the sinister high energy Excision like electric energy that glue all these songs together.
The EP closes with You’re Not Goth. This song has a different vibe from the rest of the album. I don’t know how it’s possible but after throwing you a curve ball with a slower intro, this closing track actually goes harder than all the rest. This beat is twisted, mangled, and cleverly disfigured. With Goth Normie matching the velocity with his hellish vocal tones and energy. I give PAY ATTENTION a solid rating of 8/10. Out now on all platforms!
