This list is by no means the greatest or the most accurate, but upon entering the keyword “Trapmetal” into soundcoud’s search feature, the following artists and songs are what pop up. Some of them check out, and completely make sense. While others that made it to the top of the list seem like they simply do not belong. But music is merely the presence and absence of sound, and every track we listened to was “good”, but that is not the question we are asking here. The real question, “Is it Trapmetal and does it belong in our Trapmetal Arsenal playlist?” is what we will be asking our selves as we peep each track. None of these songs were selected, we pulled them from soundcloud’s search exactly how they showed up. We even refreshed the page a few times to make sure the order they were in was not random.
Track #1 on our list has a fitting title. So You Wanted Trap Metal by JASIAH. Also produced by the artist him self, this song takes the number 1 slot on our list at an intimidating 1.5 million streams. Not the highest number of streams but im pretty sure this song is featured as number one because of the title, + the vibe of the song which is PURE TRAPMETAL. The song starts out with some slam death guitar riffs followed by a filthy 808 + vocal combo as it drops. The answer here is “yes”, no “F*ck Yes” would be more suitable. Its also worth noting that JASIAH is a prominent figure in the Trapmetal kingdom and there is no scarcity of collaborations with him and other artists that represent the alternate rap genre we are diving into.
Track 2 on our list was not expected. I was expecting more underground rage, but this song is still genuinely Trapmetal and the creators at the time didn’t realize how big of an influence they would have on the genre as a whole. So I agree with soundcloud’s algorithmic selection on this. Although this is a Ski Mask The Slump God track, I credit XXXTentacion with being one of the forefathers who contributed to Trapmetal becoming a more widely spread and common genre in every major city. TAKE A STEP BACK ft XXXTENTACION Prod.RonnyJ by SKI MASK THE SLUMP GOD takes the #2 “Greatest Trapmetal Songs According to Soundcloud” slot on our list! And it’s a yes from me. This song is a classic and it would be disrespectful to not include it in our playlist. This song has the most streams of any track that hit our list at a God Level 97.2 Million Streams.
Track #3 that soundcloud’s algortyhvomic selection process has bestowed upon us, came to me as a shocking surprise. I actually watched this artists seemingly pop up out of nowhere as he went viral on tik tok and other popular social networks. Paparazzi by Kim Dracula is a great track but personally I wouldn’t consider this song to be Trapmetal at all. Although it is quite catchy, this is more of a goth alternative pop song and I can argue this because its literally a “metal ish” cover of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi song from 2008. I consider Trapmetal to be a hiphop / rap subgenre. If there are no bars, its not trapmetal. I might have this song on repeat now, cuz im not gonna lie, its good. But it is NOT Trapmetal and wont be making it onto the Trapmetal Arsenal playlist. However it will end up on some of my other more “Emo / Goth” Playlists because i really do have this one on repeat, along with everyone else contributing to the songs 5.36 million streams.
Track #4 from the list puts us right back on track. How can we speak on Trapmetal, and not talk about SCARLXRD. Its impossible. This British Trapmetal legend is actually the most prominent and repeated artist when you search for Trapmetal on soundcloud. But for the sake of this list were just going to mention him once, to avoid the whole article being about him. Chain$aw [Prod. NIGHT GRIND] might be 4 years old, but its still a fresh track worth hearing if you are just now discovering or entering the world of Trapmetal and alternative punk / rap mashup genres. This song is heavy. Yes its pure Trapmetal, not only that, but its also echos influence. SCARLXRD is one of those artists that is so solid and on point that its common place to see and hear people copy him. There might be a lot of songs that sound exactly like Chain$saw now but he will forever be an OG in Trapmetal. I cant say he started the genre, but he ran with it, and now he’s at the forefront next to Ghostemane who surprisingly appears nowhere on this list. This song will be featured in our Trapmetal Arsenal Playlist forsure.
Track #5 is HEART BROKE by: JUFU out of Brooklyn. This song is epic and bleeds XXX Tentacion vibes all day. But there is no screaming or any elements that would lead us to believe its deserving of a Trapmetal title. Like I said the song sounds a lot like XXX Tentacion, so much so if he was still alive and I heard this song, I might think it was actually him and get really upset when I realized it wasn’t. Furthermore, the use of the #trapmetal hashtag + the high number of streams is what resulted in this track making the list but it doesn’t belong, and wont be added to the Trapmetal Arsenal playlist. However this song IS a banger and we will add it to my unrelated Clout Culture playlist because i’d like to hear it again, just not today because im taking a deep dive into soundclouds algorithmic understanding of Trapmetal. Moving on.
Track #6 After being derailed a second time, CAMERON AZI pulls us back into our rightful lane with his song LAMES Ft. $ubjectz & BabyBehr. 4 years old and boasting 1.87 million streams, this song is an anthem for alternative artists rising the ranks and attracting the bad energy that comes with success. He goes so far as to explain how to deal with it. When confronted with lames Cameron Azi calls upon his Goons and Shooters. Simple enough but eternal in nature because in the world we live in today, this is highly relatable. Especially in the underground culture, unfortunately. None the less, the authenticity of this track + its relatability and high energy are what propelled it forward landing it on this list. This song screams Trapmetal and is a “must have” for our playlist.
Track #7 has me pumped. Im really glad the algorithms on soundcloud work the way they do because now I get to write about the man, the legend, the myth, Lil Toe. This is so perfect, the song that popped up even happens to be not only my favorite Lil Toe song, but its also the 1st song I heard when I discovered him. One day a long time ago about 3-5 years ago I get a text from a friend and a video. It was a moshpit, and there was a guy in a full bodied custom gucci foot costume. Yes you read that right. He was in the pit, performing his shit, dressed up like a foot. A designer foot. The song he was performing was Fuck Shit. The very same song that appears on this list due to algorithmic data despite the fact “trapmetal” isnt tagged anywhere in the meta information. You already know its a YES from me. Expect this legendary banger on the playlist.
Track 8 is labeled as #ragecore not #trapmetal but they are pretty much the same thing to me. Trapmetal is to Deathmetal and punk what Ragecore is to Powerviolence and Grindcore. Yes i’m that guy. Im obsessed with different sub-genres and I like to identify their influences. Before I even listened to this song I was impressed by its grandiose song title. BE SILENT WHEN THE KING IS SPEAKING by PRXJEKis not for the faint of heart. Don’t listen to this song if you don’t like loud noises with a lot of high end frequencies. This is moshpit music at its finest. High energy yet downtempo in a way that keeps your head-banging and your bows swinging at a brutal pace that is easy to keep up with. Sometimes when people make ragecore it can be too much to take seriously but that is not the case here. Its a yes from me, and Im glad I just discovered this artists because i’ll be keeping up with him. Expect to hear this song and other releases on the playlist!
Track 9 is a very appropriate title for this list not only because of the Artist who released it but also because of the other features on the track. All 3 artists on this collab are legitimate Trapmetal legends. The song is by $ubjectz from Brentwood New York who is often featured in my playlist due to the heavy nu-metal and 90’s alternative elements in some of his songs (Queen Of The Dammed vibes). We also mentioned Cameron AZI on this list, so need to recap if you have been comprehending what you are reading. But the 3rd artist on this list is a name that should be at the top of this list, and he would be if we weren’t purely going off soundcloud’s algorithmic selection. Many consider Zillakami, the songs 3rd collaborator, to be the Don of all Trapmetal. And I could go on for days about his influence in not just Trapmetal but also in the creation of the clout beast rat king Takashi 69 who wouldn’t be screaming his lyrics with conviction the way he does if he hadn’t linked with Zillakami. But thats a whole different story in its self. WAR-PAINT released by $ubjectz is produced by Thraxx and more closely matches the typical fake fl studio guitar sampled trap type songs you would usually hear on a City Morgue record. But its still a yes from me, I consider this song a classic and a legendary collaboration 3 artists who truly embody the essence of Trapmetal.
Track 10 The creator of the popular clothing brand Gnarcotic, LIL GNAR is not a name I was expecting to see on this list. I also was not expecting the song to actually encompass genuine Trapmetal spirit. But let me tell you, it absolutely does! And now that Im thinking about it, it makes sense. Gnarcotic is a household name among fans of alternative hiphop and Trapmetal alike. I don’t follow the brand but now that I just made this connection I will be. But lets talk music. GNARCOTIC GANG might not be the heaviest song, its actually surprisingly down tempo, but what I like is how original it is. It just doesn’t sound like anything I’ve ever heard before, which is a nice breath of fresh air these days. Killstation, who produced the beat also uses real guitar tracks on the beat which is also interesting. Just wish the song was faster but its still a yes from me, its going on the Trapmetal Arsenal playlist for sure and I’d like to hear more Trapmetal energy from Lil nar.
