Thanks for taking the time to sit down with us here at Trap Metal Arsenal let’s start by introducing your self a who you are and what you are all about ?
thank you for giving me this opportunity! I am 1Kyu from Newcastle Upon Tyne, im 17, Im fresh to making music and slowly to tryna find my own unique sound but i want to eventually have a new sound no one else has made and be something new.
What kick started your love for music and what or who got you into making music yourself?
From young i always listened to Rap like kanye west, Jayz , eminem ect. just stuck to what i loved the most. It wasnt until the soundcloud era where i started gaining new sounds i liked like Lil Uzi Vert, carti, x, just kinda of a more hype or rage sound of music rather than a chilled out one. Then when the Pandemic hit i started exploring even more to more after music or more grunge music like hyperpop and punk sounding music. I feel like i havent finished finding what type of music i like and theres a lot more sounds i like that i havent found.
What started me making music was in Lockdown where i started being active on discord and making cool friends and good connections and everyone just sat in call and played on FL studio making funny songs or just learning how to use it. i started taking it serious in early 2021 when my friend taught me how to make beats and stuff and that was a start for me just learning the basics then making type beats for different artists, it never really got me anywhere but it was what i needed to start off. I started doing vocal stuff in like late 2021 when i had made strong connections in my scene and i was friends with Chero who taught me how to deliver and mix my vocals better, Lot of respect to him because since when i started to now hes taught me a lot and how to make good sounding music.
Do you have a thriving local scene that you’re a part of ? If so what are the strengths of your scene and what do you think you could improve?
In Newcastle the scene its very isolated from the rest of the uk because youre stuck in the top corner of the UK not really near anything so I never really looked for the scene in Newcastle until 2021 and i had just looked outside of my area for smaller artists. I am grateful for the scene in Newcastle, the people close to me here have taught me a lot, and the scene here is very solidified with loads of different genres performing at the gigs. something we can improve on is marketing ourselves outside newcastle and start looking for bigger things outside of the local scene.
What would you say your greatest weakness as a independent artist on the rise ??
I think my biggest weakness is social presence , its just a lot to keep track of 4-5 different apps at all times when i dont really wanna speak to people. i think its hard for anyone tryna grow to be honest.
Which artists past or present would you say paved the way for this generation and the Trap Metal Genre ?
For our generation i couldnt really say it just depends which genre or scene ur close to but for me kanye definitely gave a lot more inspiration for younger artists. For trap metal i would say X had a huge impact on starting something and i think scarlxrd and ghostmane carried it, scarlxrd has still got a good grip on this genre but i feel ghostemane has moved onto something else. In the present Lil Darkie and bvdlvd definetly have something to change the whole genre.
What was your favourite show you’ve played so far and what is your dream line up featuring yourself ?
My Favourite show ive played i would say NoelFest 3 just because im kind of finding more stage presence and to get the crowd moving. i wouldnt say i have a dream lineup i would just like to play a festival one day just because ive never been to one.
What can we expect from you in the future? New Music? Tour News ?
In the future i have big plans for a project but for now im gonna slowly change my sound up to something new
Which of your releases would you recommend for new listeners to get a greater understanding of you as an artist ?
Depends what people are looking for i would like to say i have a good variety like my breakcore project “ANGEL333” or “HITLIST” where its more distortion and screamy or “LIE!” where it experimental on the sound. On soundcloud i have some exclusives where the sound is something new.
Who is your biggest influence as a artist and how have they influenced your sound?
My biggest influence right now is the artists in or near DEATHPROOF INC. just because theres so many different influences and cool sounds i enjoy and that puts an impact on my music
